Landscape Design Essentials
Designing a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing landscape requires a balance of both hardscape and softscape elements. Whether your landscape space is small or large, you should incorporate both elements into the design when creating your own personal paradise.
What’s The Difference Between Hardscape and Softscape?
Hardscape refers to hard materials like rock, stone, pavers, brick or concrete which are used to create patios, walkways, driveways, retaining walls, pool decking, water features, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and fire pits.
Precast concrete stepping stones, planter pots, statuaries, and wall caps are also considered hardscape elements.
Softscape includes all of the living elements including trees, plants, shrubs, vegetation, vines, flowers and ground cover. These softscape elements bring life and rich colors to your landscape design.
Blending a combination of both hardscape and softscape in your outdoor living space will
result in a balanced and visually pleasing space. Too much hardscape can result in a sterile and uninviting environment while too much softscape can look overgrown and chaotic.
At Preach Building Supply, we sell the hardscape products used to create a beautiful balance in your landscape design. Our knowledgeable staff can provide you with all the information you’ll need to decide which hardscape elements makes the most sense for your space.
While the majority of our products fall under the hardscape category, we do offer grass seed (Bermuda in April and Winter Rye in late September) and sod which can be purchased at our Landscape store. We also offer artificial grass at all three locations.
Choosing Your Hardscape Elements
If you have any questions about how to incorporate beautiful hardscape elements into your landscape design, please call or stop in at any of our three Valley locations to see our hardscape displays and product samples. They will provide you with ideas and inspiration for your landscape design.
